Geoff Enfield recently contacted us about his parent's 60th wedding anniversary, and we just had to share it with you all.
Noela and Bill met on a
blind date in 1948 and went to see a movie "Song of India." Apparently there was
a very tense scene and the theatre was in complete silence until a snake appeared on the screen. Noela screamed at the top of her
voice, grabbing Bill on the arm. Bill tells us, "she scared the crap out of me and
everyone else!"
They were
engaged in 1951 and married in St Stephen's church in Lidcombe in 1952.
Noela and Bill have just
received letters of congratulations from the Queen, Governor General, Prime
Minister, Premier, and we wanted to add ours to the list.
To offer our congratulations, we asked Geoff to do a mini-interview for us. "It
was fun asking the questions - they are real soul mates, still sharp at 80 and 84 plus full of cheek"
So, what do Noela and Bill think the secret to a long and happy marriage is?
Bill:
“It’s what you make of it – marriage is like everything you do in life, you get
out of it what you put in, you just make the most of every moment.”
Noela:
“Sharing in each others interests”
Bill:
“Commitment & respect” then joking said, “a little romance does not go
astray either”
Noela:
Jokingly replied – “My mother told me the secret to a happy marriage is to keep
a man’s stomach happy" then she paused and giggled "as well as whatever
is attached to it” she went on to say "I was really shocked when my mum
told me that because she was so prim, proper and I was so innocent"
Bill:
“Having a family & being part of your children’s life & enjoying
watching them growing up through the various stages of their life.”
Noela: “Grandchildren keep you young at heart and there's nothing like when a
grandchild asks 'how did you do that nan or pop in your days?' – it's passing
on family values and knowledge to another generation”.
Congratulations Noela and Bill, from all the staff at Bride to Be magazine.
P.s We just love your wedding photo!
