What I wish I knew about getting married

At Bride to Be we think weddings should be a time that brings families and friends together in their support of you, the bride. We believe they're a wonderful time to reconnect with loved ones and encourage a deeper conversation about the things in life that really matter.

So, to help start that conversation we've teamed up with Marty Wilson, author of the bestselling What I Wish I Knew series, to create What I Wish I Knew about Getting Married.

We'd like you to ask everyone you know who has walked down the aisle this question:
If you could go back and give your younger self one piece of advice about getting married, what would it be?
Call up all your friends who have walked down the aisle, then go see all your relatives who are married and get them talking about their wedding day.

Then get them to log onto http://whatiwishiknew.com/gettingmarried/ to fill out a short questionnaire, then they could be in Marty's next book. The best five entries will win a copy of What I Wish I Knew about Love.

Tell us What you wish you knew about Getting Married and you
can win a copy of What I  wish I knew about love.
What would you tell yourself about how to get through your big day better?
Some responses already in are:
‘Things will go wrong, and the people who really love you won’t care’
‘It’s your day, not your mum’s’
‘Someone HAS to sit next to Mad Uncle Dave.’

What I Wish I Knew about Getting Married asks men and women what they might do differently if they had their wedding day over again. What would they do differently? And what were the things that really mattered? The result will be the perfect way for you to learn from their experience, and a book that is the perfect gift for every engaged couple.

The What I Wish I Knew series
Every edition of the bestselling What I Wish I Knew book series gathers up almost 100 people – some famous, most not – and asks them to pass on the answer the wisdom of their hindsight by answering the question “If you could go back and give your younger self one piece of advice, what would it be?”

The book then puts down each person’s quote, and a short description of the experience that led them to their insight, next to a photo of them in their younger days - complete with a really nasty mullet - just so all this profound wisdom doesn't seem too smug.

About the author
Marty Wilson is a Stand Up Comic, Speaker, bestselling author and hopeless, pathetic romantic (he wrote a book on love for his wife, for goodness sake!). Very late on Christmas Day, 2001, Marty proposed to Allie and she - quite understandably under the circumstances - replied with the immortal words 'You're not just drunk, are you?' They were married in England the next year and had their reception in a manor house formerly owned by the poet Shelley. They have two boys, Connor and Elliot and a third bubba on the way.
