The Queen crashes Manchester wedding!

Ordinarily, wedding crashes are the last thing you want on your big day. However if the crasher happens to be Queen Elizabeth II, the chances are you'd be more awe struck than anything else. Well that's exactly what happened to newlyweds John and Francis Canning. The couple were stunned (to say the least) when Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip made an unannounced visit to their small wedding reception.

Their reception happened to be taking place at the same hall where Her Majesty was attending a luncheon during her recent visit to Manchester in northern England.

Apparently the groom, who was aware Her Majesty would be in Manchester during his nuptials, had written a letter to Buckingham Palace, inviting her and Prince Philip to attend. The letter (said to have been written in jest) received a polite reply, kindly declining the offer. Hence the complete surprise when they turned up!

The royals happily posed for photographs and spoke with the happy couple! Needless to say, the wedding was on a slightly different scale to that of Her Majesty and Prince Philip in 1947.

The queen is currently on her Diamond Jubilee our, celebrating six decades since she took the throne in 1952.
